The twelfth session of Working Group II (WGII-12) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reconvened on Sunday morning to formally approve the Summary for Policymakers (SPM) of the WGII contribution to the IPCC’s Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) and accept the underlying technical assessment report. The Panel, at its resumed 55th session, then approved the actions taken by WGII.
During the closing IPCC-55 plenary session, delegates took the floor to thank the IPCC Secretariat, WGII Co-Chairs and the Technical Support Unit for all their efforts in making the meeting a success. In particular, they praised the hard work of all the authors that prepared the SPM and underlying report, acknowledging their tireless work in making the reports robust and scientifically accurate.
IPCC Secretary Abdalah Mokssit announced the WGIII approval session will take place from 21 March to 1 April 2022, in a virtual session hosted by the UK.
IPCC Chair Hoesung Lee reported that this approval session recorded the highest ever number of registered delegates, showing the ever-increasing relevance of IPCC reports. He noted that delegates and authors’ dedication and spirit of cooperation enabled the provision of a robust report despite the difficulties of working virtually to both produce the assessment and then come together to approve the SPM.
The ENB summary and analysis of IPCC-55 will be available on this site on Tuesday, 1 March 2022.
