Highlights and images for 31 July 2024

Sofia, Bulgaria

Given the complexity of the work carried out by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), establishing a strategic planning schedule is a critical task early in each assessment cycle. The Panel spent substantial time on this issue during its last session, held in January 2024. While consensus on some elements was achieved then, the Panel deferred other elements to this meeting for further consideration. Delegates began work on this agenda item on Wednesday, with issues to be agreed during this meeting including the timelines for delivery of the three Working Group assessment reports.

The Panel also heard progress reports from: Working Group I on the Physical Science Basis; Working Group II on Impacts, Adaptation, and Vulnerability; Working Group III on the Mitigation of Climate Change; and the Task Force on National Greenhouse Gas Inventories.
