UNFF8 Coming Down on the Nightshift
Delegates to the eighth session of the UN Forum on Forests (UNFF8) convened throughout the day and into the night in Working Group I (WGI) and a contact group. WGI continued discussions on the draft resolution on forests in a changing environment. The contact group continued deliberations on the Co-Chairs' draft text on financing for SFM.

Working Group I: Forests in a Changing Environment
|
After a presentation on women and forests in areas of armed conflict from Marie-Ange Lukiana Mufwankolo, Minister for Gender, Family and Children, Democratic Republic of Congo, Working Group I worked all day and into the night, negotiating the draft resolution on forests in a changing environment, enhanced cooperation and regional and subregional inputs.

Contact Group: Financing for SFM
|
The contact group on financing for SFM met briefly in the morning, when disagreement on establishing a global forest fund led Chair Tharyat to convene a Friends of the Chair meeting. Proposals emerging from the Friends of the Chair group, as well as other paragraphs in the Co-Chairs' draft text on SFM financing, were discussed in the afternoon and into the night.

Side Events
|
The Alliance of Indigenous and Tribal People in Tropical Forests organized a side event, "REDD: A Mocking Bird's Egg in the wrong nest."

The Republic of Liberia Forestry Development Authority organized a side event on post-war sustainable forestry reform, with emphasis on the LiberFor Chain of Custody System.
