Nineteenth Meeting of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) Plants Committee (PC)

Highlights for Wednesday, 20 April 2011
CITESOn Wednesday morning, the working group on Madagascar met. Plenary reconvened to address: timber issues; capacity building; the challenges of making non-detriment findings (NDFs) for geophytes; and the evaluation of the Review of Significant Trade (RST).

In the afternoon, plenary heard regional reports and discussed: cooperation with other conventions, including the Intergovernmental Science-policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) and climate change impacts on the science-based decisions-making processes under CITES; production systems for specimens of CITES-listed species; and an update on the range-wide review of Sclerocactus. Plenary also discussed the outcome of the working group on orchids annotations.
