SB 26 and AWG 3 Conclude in Bonn
SB 26 and AWG 3 have concluded their work by adopting over two dozen conclusions, as well as several draft decisions that will forwarded to COP 13 and COP/MOP 3 in Bali, Indonesia, in December 2007.
The SBSTA and SBI together adopted 26 conclusions and five decisions on a range of issues, concluding their work on Friday morning. The SBSTA finished its work for this session by gaveling through conclusions/decisions on issues such as the Nairobi work programme on impacts, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change, the development and transfer of technologies, reducing emissions from deforestation in developing countries, methodological issues, and climate change mitigation. SBI 26 completed its work on national communications, the Adaptation Fund, the adverse effects of climate change and impacts of response measures, and capacity building. It also adopted a draft decision on the 2008-2009 budget. On Friday afternoon, the AWG adopted conclusions after a short plenary, ending at 3:46 pm local time. Delegates will now be looking forward to AWG 4 and the fourth workshop under the Convention Dialogue on long-term action, which are taking place in Vienna from 27-31 August. There will also be a number of other meetings in the lead-up to Bali in December, which many negotiators are now describing as the next "critical" meeting.
