On the third day, delegates continued their consideration of the Summary for Policymakers of the Working Group I (WG I) contribution to the Sixth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
Three plenary sessions took place during the day, respectively addressing subsections on:
- global surface temperature increase in the near term;
- what is required from a physical science perspective to limit human-induced global warming; and
- changes in “climatic impact-drivers,” which are physical climate system conditions that affect an element of society or ecosystems.
Following these plenary sessions, authors met to reflect on how to respond to delegates’ comments. In so-called “conference room papers,” authors outlined proposed changes and provided rationales for their decisions.
Building on the plenary sessions and authors’ meetings held on Tuesday, two contact group sessions also took place during the day. The first, co-facilitated by Trinidad and Tobago and Norway, focused on a subsection on the impacts of human-induced climate change. The second, co-facilitated by Brazil and the US, addressed a subsection on ocean and land carbon sinks.
