2nd Session of the United Nations Habitat Assembly
Against a backdrop of global crises that are having severe effects on cities, participants at the Second Session of the UN Habitat Assembly addressed the need for a sustainable urban future through inclusive and effective multilateralism and adopted 10 resolutions, five decisions, and a Ministerial Declaration to further the implementation of the New Urban Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Bonn Climate Change Conference - June 2023
With the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s Sixth Assessment Report underscoring once more the urgent need for enhanced climate action, and less than six months to go before the 28th meeting of the Conference of the Parties convenes in Dubai, delegates had their work cut out for themselves in Bonn.

Alors que la réunion a été caractérisée par des échauffourées sur les questions de procédures, par de longs retards et par des nuits tardives, les délégués ont échangé leurs points de vue sur un document d'options et ont tracé la voie à suivre pour la période intersessions menant à la prochaine session de négociation, mandatant l’élaboration d'un "avant-projet" du nouveau traité pour la lutte contre la pollution par les plastiques.

While the meeting was characterized by procedural scuffles, long delays, and late nights, delegates shared views on an options paper and set out a path for the intersessional period leading to the next negotiating session, mandating the preparation of a “zero draft” of the new treaty to address plastics pollution.
Resumed Review Conference on the UN Fish Stocks Agreement
Many highlighted progress on strengthening the ecosystem approach, addressing illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing, preserving deep-sea ecosystems, and promoting coordination between Regional Fisheries Management Organizations. But there was no consensus to reference the Agreement on the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity of areas beyond national jurisdiction (BBNJ) and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
High-Level Meeting on the Midterm Review of the Sendai Framework
Eight years after the adoption of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, the international community assessed progress on its implementation. Taking place at “a defining point in history,” and against the backdrop of many global crises, delegates called for better governance, investments in resilience, and a focus on disaster prevention.
Global Expert Group Meeting in preparation of the SDG 7 review at the HLPF 2023
If the current trend continues, nearly two billion people will still lack access to clean cooking by 2030. Experts gave proposals for moving forward on this target and others that make up the keystone Sustainable Development Goal on affordable and clean energy.
18th Session of the UNFF
Technical discussions during the week included interlinkages between the Global Forest Goals, the Sustainable Development Goals, and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Speakers informed delegates on: regenerative agriculture; the role of the Global Environment Facility, the Adaptation Fund, and regional development banks; the forests-energy-livelihoods nexus; and the potential of carbon markets for forest finance.
