On Thursday, 31 March, Working Group III (WGIII) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) continued its line-by-line review of the draft text of the Summary for Policymakers (SPM) of the WGIII contribution to the IPCC’s Sixth Assessment Report. WGIII focuses on mitigation of climate change.
With the two-week session drawing near to its end, and significant work remaining, delegates met in four plenary sessions to review and approve text from every section of the SPM, including: the introduction and framing; recent developments and current trends; system transformations to limit global warming; linkages between mitigation, adaptation, and sustainable development; and strengthening the response.
In contact group meetings, delegates discussed sections and subsections of the SPM relating to, inter alia:
- pathways and warming levels, peak warming, and patterns and transformations; and
- carbon dioxide removal.
WGIII will continue its work on Friday, 1 April.
