Extended for one more day, the Commission on Population and Development acting as the preparatory committee (PrepCom) for the UN Special Session of the General Assembly (UNGASS) for the review and appraisal of the implementation of the Programme of Action (POA) of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) held its Closing Plenary, suspended its work and adjourned at 8:30 pm. Delegates first convened informally at 3:00 pm to discuss outstanding issues including participation of NGOs in the Special Session and when to convene the resumed PrepCom. A clean text of agreed changes thus far to the Draft Working Paper on proposals for key actions for further implementation of the ICPD POA was distributed, as well as a Compilation of Amendments submitted by delegations. In the Closing Plenary, delegates adopted documents regarding UNGASS on the draft provisional agenda and organizational matters, the establishment of the list of speakers for the debate in Plenary, and arrangements for the accreditation of NGOs. A decision on when to hold the resumed PrepCom will later be taken after further consideration by the Bureau. |
