The preparatory segment of the eighth Conference of the Parties (COP-8) to the Vienna Convention and the twentieth Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer (MOP-20) began in Doha, Qatar, on Sunday, 16 November 2008.
Delegates heard an opening address by H.E. Abdullah bin Mubarak bin Aaboud al-Midhadi, Minister of Environment, Qatar, addressed organizational matters and considered Vienna Convention and combined Vienna Convention and Montreal Protocol issues.
During the afternoon, delegates considered Montreal Protocol related issues, including the replenishment of the Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol, heard update reports by the Technology and Economic Assessment Panel (TEAP), and issues related to essential uses.
Delegates established contact groups on replenishment and destruction, which will meet on Monday morning. |
