On Friday morning, the Co-chairs' summary of discussions was distributed to delegations, and after remaining country statements were heard, the meeting was suspended briefly for delegations to consider the summary.

Discussion of the Co-chairs' summary then began, and was completed in the afternoon. After closing remarks, in which the Co-Chairs highlighted DOALOS Secretary Gabriele Goettsche-Wanli's many years of service and wished her success at her new post elsewhere in the UN, the Consultative Process was declared closed at 4:29pm.

On Thursday morning, panelists from Wednesday's session on new approaches, best practices and opportunities for improved capacity building were able to respond to previously asked questions, with delegates making additional comments. This was followed by a plenary session involving a general exchange of views and a presentation on inter-agency cooperation and coordination.

A discussion on issues that could benefit from attention in future work of the UN General Assembly began in late morning and continued into the afternoon, followed by discussion on the process for the selection of topics and panelists to facilitate the work of the General Assembly.

On Wednesday morning, a presentation was made and discussion was held on an overview of capacity-building activities and initiatives, and challenges for achieving effective capacity building.

In the afternoon, delegates completed discussion of the second topic, and the Discussion Panel began addressing new approaches, best practices and opportunities for improved capacity building .

On Tuesday morning, delegates reconvened in a discussion panel on assessing the need for capacity building in ocean affairs and the law of the sea, including marine science.

In the afternoon, panelists and delegates continued the panel discussion with an overview of capacity building activities and initiatives.

The eleventh meeting of the United Nations Open-ended Informal Consultative Process on Oceans and the Law of the Sea (the Consultative Process or ICP-11) opened at United Nations Headquarters in New York on Monday, 21 June 2010.

In the morning, delegates convened in plenary and were addressed by Thomas Stelzer, Assistant Secretary-General for Policy Coordination and Inter-Agency Affairs at the Department of Economic and Social Affairs, and Patricia O'Brien, Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs, before addressing organizational matters and holding a general exchange of views on capacity building in ocean affairs and the law of the sea, including marine science.

In the afternoon, a discussion panel began on assessing the need for capacity building, and delegates heard a presentation on activities of the Global Environment Facility.
