Highlights for Thursday, 6 November 2014

On Thursday, INC6 delegates convened in plenary in the morning to hear reports from Contact Groups on finance and technical issues. They also addressed issues including Artisanal and Small-scale Gold Mining (ASGM), environmentally sound interim storage, mercury wastes and contaminated sites. Contact Groups during the day to discuss rules and reporting, technical issues and finance. In the evening, delegates attended a reception hosted by the Government of Thailand before returning to the Contact Groups on finance, and rules and reporting.

Side Events

Side event hosted by the UNEP Global Mercury Partnership to discuss reducing mercury in Artisanal and Small-scale Gold Mining, where the updated guidance document on developing a national strategic plan to reduce mercury use was presented.

Side event hosted by Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, where delegates listened to the stories of people directly involved in the tragedy that occurred in Minamata.

Side event hosted by the Zero Mercury Working Group and International POPs Elimination Network (IPEN) that discussed the mercury trade in the Southeast Asia region with selected exporter countries.

Reception hosted by the Government of Thailand
