POPs COP-3 Highlights: Friday 4 May 2007

The Committee of the Whole met throughout the day to discuss oustanding issues, including the budget, technical assistance, non-compliance and effectiveness evaluation. Plenary met in the afternoon to consider the remaining draft decisions.

COP-3 considered several reports on activities within the Convention's mandate and adopted all decisions in the agenda on, inter alia: effectiveness evaluation; the budget; financial resources; DDT; synergies; technical assistance; POPs waste; infomation exchange; toolkit for the identification and quantification of dioxin and furan releases; listing chemicals in Annexes A, B or C of the Convention; reporting; and national implementation plans.

The Secretariat announced that COP-4 will be held from 4-8 May 2009 in Geneva, Switzerland.

COP-3 President closed the plenary at 8:55 pm.
