Negotiations under the COP21 of the Barcelona Convention and its Protocols resumed on 4 December 2019 in a Ministerial session. During the interactive Ministerial policy review session, a high-level panel discussed “Protecting the marine environment and coastal region of the Mediterranean: game-changing action for sustainability”. The first session of the panel focused on challenges and opportunities that should factor into policymaking to achieve Good Environmental Status in the Mediterranean in the context of sustainable development. Pr. Thomas Froelicher, IPCC Author, presented the findings of the Special Report on the Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate (SROCC) and shared reflections on the Mediterranean region related to impacts of climate change.
