The High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) opened Monday, 9 July 2018, under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) at UN Headquarters in New York. Under the theme, ‘Transformation towards sustainable and resilient societies,’ governments are taking stock of progress to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In addition to reviewing the UN Secretary-General’s annual report on the SDGs, the HLPF is examining implementation of five goals in detail: SDG 6 (water and sanitation); SDG 7 (energy); SDG 11 (sustainable cities); SDG 12 (sustainable production and consumption); and SDG 15 (terrestrial ecosystems), and SDG 17 (partnerships for the goals).
