The 14th Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol
Rome, Italy | 25 - 29 November 2002

Friday, 29 November 2002

On Friday, delegates adopted 46 decisions, including replenishment of the Multilateral Fund for the triennium 2003-2005 with US$ 573 million. UNEP Deputy Executive Director Shafqat Kakakhel expressed profound satisfaction at the success of the meeting, noting that this should dispel doubts about the strength of international solidarity. Highlighting the "vitality and dynamism" of delegates, Executive Secretary González reported that MOP-14/COP-6 had enjoyed participation by over 50 Ministers. COP-6 President Horwitz gaveled the meeting to close at 8:15 pm.

Pictures of the day

Bosnia and Herzegovina noted its first participation in a high-level segment and stated that it could "hardly accept" non-compliance status in the Implementation Committee report given its special circumstances and requested a baseline of 2001.

Cambodia noted the importance of the principle of common but differentiated responsibility when establishing time bound obligations for Parties.

After a week of intense negotiations, the Plenary adopted the draft decision on the 2003-2005 replenishment of the Multilateral Fund (UNEP/OzL.Pro.14/CRP.17) that contains the budget for 2003-2005 of US$573 millions, of which: US$76million comes from funds not allocated during 2000-2002; US$23 millions from interest accruing to the Fund and other sources during 2003-2005; and US$474 millions from the scale of contributions for the Multilateral Fund replenishment.
