International Conference on Chemicals Management – ICCM
The issue of chemicals management and the idea of a Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) emerged on the agenda of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in 1995. The 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development set the 2020 goal of achieving the use and production of chemicals in ways that minimize significant adverse effects on human health and the environment. This resulted in the negotiation of a SAICM, which was adopted at the first International Conference on Chemicals Management (ICCM) in 2006, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The ICCM meets every three years to achieve the sound management of chemicals and hazardous wastes at all levels, to continue mobilizing national and international financing from public and private sources; and minimize the significant adverse effects on human health and the environment.
