Arab Regional Implementation Meeting (RIM) for the Twentieth Session of the Commission for Sustainable Development (CSD-20)

The Arab Regional Implementation Meeting (RIM) for the 20th Session of the Commission for Sustainable Development (CSD-20) met from 29-30 May 2013 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). The meeting was convened by the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) together with the League of Arab States (LAS) and the UN Environment Programme Regional Office for West Asia (UNEP ROWA), the UAE Ministry of Environment and Water and the Zayed International Foundation for the Environment. 

The Arab RIM discussed the main outcomes of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), their implications for the sustainable development agenda in the Arab region, and priorities for implementation. 

Specific topics addressed during the meeting included: a report on green economy priorities for the Arab region and an investment road map prepared by UNEP and ESCWA; opportunities for enhancing Arab regional and national institutions for sustainable development; and a proposal to update the The Sustainable Development Initiative in the Arab Region (SDIAR), a framework for action that was first presented at the World Summit on Social Development (WSSD) in 1992. 

The RIM produced an outcome document that will inform international discussions at the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) as well as international discussions around sustainable development goals (SDGs) and post-2015 processes. 

The RIM is one in a series of meetings organized by the UN regional commissions. Meetings in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia and the Pacific have already taken place.
