Highlights from Friday, 7 October

The UN Climate Change Conference concluded on Friday. Informal groups under the AWG-LCA concluded their work in the morning. The AWG-LCA and AWG-KP contact groups then convened to conclude thier work. In the afternoon, the closing plenary of the AWG-KP met, followed by the closing plenary of the AWG-LCA, which adjourned at 6:33 pm. AWG-LCA 14 and AWG-KP 16 were suspended and will resume their work in Durban.

Highlights from Thursday 6 October

The UN Climate Change Conference continued on Thursday in Panama City. Informal and spin-off groups convened throughout the day under the AWG-LCA and AWG-KP. Under the AWG-LCA informal groups took place on developed country mitigation, developing country NAMAs, the Review, legal options, adaptation, finance, and technology transfer. Under the AWG-KP, spin-off groups convened on Annex I emission reductions, mechanisms and LULUCF.

Highlights from Wednesday, 5 October

The UN Climate Change Conference continued on Wednesday. In the morning the AWG-LCA contact group convened. The AWG-KP contact group on consideration of further commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol met in the afternoon. Informal and spin-off groups convened throughout the day under the AWG-LCA and AWG-KP.

Under the AWG-LCA informal groups took place on developed country mitigation, developing country NAMAs, the Review, legal options, adaptation, various approaches, including opportunities for using markets, to enhance the cost-effectiveness of, and to promote, mitigation actions, finance, sectoral approaches and sector-specific actions and technology transfer. Under the AWG-KP spin-off groups convened on Annex I emission reductions, LULUCF, the basket of methodological issues and potential consequences.

Highlights from Tuesday, 4 October

The UN Climate Change Conference AWG-KP continued on Tuesday. In the morning, the contact group on Annex I parties’ on further commitments convened under the AWG-KP. Informal and spin-off groups convened throughout the day under the AWG-LCA and AWG-KP. Under the AWG-LCA, informal groups took place on developed country mitigation, developing country NAMAs, the Review, REDD+, legal options, capacity-building, finance, adaptation, shared vision and technology transfer. Under the AWG-KP, spin-off groups convened on Annex I emission reductions, LULUCF, other issues and potential consequences. South Africa, in their role as the incoming COP presidency of COP 17, conducted an open-ended informal consultation for stakeholders in the afternoon.

The UN Climate Change Conference continued on Monday morning with a meeting of the AWG-LCA contact group to provide progress reports. The AWG-KP spin-off group on Annex I emission reductions also took place. Several AWG-LCA informal groups convened in both the morning and afternoon on: finance; various approaches, including opportunities for using markets, to enhance the cost-effectiveness of, and to promote, mitigation; and sectoral approaches and sector-specific actions. In the afternoon, AWG-LCA informal groups also met to discuss response measures, REDD+, developed country mitigation and developing country NAMAs. AWG-KP spin-off groups on LULUCF and the flexibility mechanisms convened, as well. The UNFCCC Secretariat convened a special information event on fast-start finance during lunch.

Highlights from Saturday, 1 October

The sixteenth session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP 16) and the fourteenth session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the UNFCCC (AWG-LCA 14) resumed for the third time this year today in Panama City, Panama. The UN Climate Change Conference opened with a welcoming ceremony. In the morning, the opening plenaries of the third parts of the AWG-KP and the AWG-LCA took place. In the afternoon, the AWG-LCA contact group of the whole and the AWG-KP contact group on Annex I parties’ further commitments also convened.
