Fifteenth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP15) of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES)

CITES CoP15 will convene in Doha, Qatar, from 13-25 March 2010. CoP15 will review progress in the conservation of species listed in the Appendices, including: great apes, Asian big cats, Tibetan antelope, corals and agarwood-producing taxa. It will consider proposals to amend the lists of species in Appendices I and II, including the proposals to: transfer the polar bear (Ursus maritimus)from Appendix II to Appendix I; transfer the population of elephants (Loxodonta africana) of the United Republic of Tanzania and Zambia from Appendix I to Appendix II for specific purposes; list Atlantic bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus) under Appendix I; and list different shark species under Appendix II.
It will also: consider discussion documents and reports from the Parties, the permanent committees, the Secretariat and working groups; recommend measures to improve the effectiveness of the Convention; and make provisions necessary to allow the Secretariat to function effectively.
Due to funding constraints, IISD RS will only be publishing a summary and analysis of the conference, which will be available on this page on Sunday, 28 March 2010. |
