On Friday, PC20 convened in plenary for its consideration of the final items on its agenda. In the morning, delegates engaged in lengthy discussions on the annotations working group’s proposed recommendations, including bilateral and informal meetings in an effort to reach consensus. Participants ultimately agreed that PC Chair Clemente should report on the working group deliberations to SC62. Delegates then considered the working group report on Cedrela and Dalbergia spp. and agreed, inter alia, that they had concluded their work on this issue.

PC20 reconvened after lunch when parties heard the report from the working groups on bigleaf mahogany and other neotropical timber species. The PC agreed on recommendations on, inter alia, tariff codes, chain of custody, use of scientific names in timber trade, and authenticated reference timber samples.

The report on timber species, medicinal plants and agarwood-producing species prompted a lively debate but resulted in outcomes that were, according to one participant, "win-win for all." Nomenclature Specialist McGough then presented the recommendations of the working group on Madagascar, which the PC adopted without amendment. On behalf of the PC, PC Chair Clemente congratulated Madagascar for their initiative and progress.  Delegates also heard regional reports from Europe, North America and Oceania.

Mexico announced their willingness to host the next meetings of the AC, PC, and a possible joint session, noting the moral support of the North American region. Delegates welcomed the announcement.  

PC Chair Clemente gaveled the meeting to a close at 6:31pm.
